Recently, we visited the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention in Bellingham, Washington. After a fun MegaZapper Electrical Show (we highly suggest, cool stuff), we decided to make a day of it in Bellingham.
Our next stop was Stones Throw Brewing Co to sample some of the local brews. Good rotating selection of beers with the Flat Penny Pale being our favorite.
Stones Throw’s origin story is as fun and unique as their rotating taps. Two buddies – Tony Luciano and Jack Pflueger met up on a backpacking trip in Vietnam and started talking about their love of homebrew and passion for one day opening a brewery focused on community, adventure, and sustainability.
The two buddies purchased a house with 2-car garage in Fairhaven, WA not far from downtown Bellingham, which they’ve converted into a fun tap room that is dog and kid friendly.
On our visit, we immediately noticed the fun finishing touches around the tap room like refrigerated beer glass holders built right into the bar. The backyard has been converted into a beer garden with a fire pit, a perfect place to hang out after a day of skiing. Fun Fact: The house is now an AirBnB!
Between the house and tap room is the brewing facility – a converted metal shipping container that houses all their equipment. We got a sneak peek of the operation and loved the sustainability!
We were able to check out the brewery while we were there in the shipping containers right next door. Back East BBQ Food Truck turned out a great lunch plate with salad and hush puppies. We tried the brisket and pulled pork, both had a great flavor profile – you can’t go wrong here. With a good lineup of Food Trucks and a welcoming staff, this is a place you’ll want to stay a while and return to often!
